I have been working with a small group of people to change the law regarding parking in bike lanes. As of right now, it is legal to use a bike lane for on street parking. Through the efforts of the group, as well as Councilmen Cole and Jameson, we have been able to put a bill up for vote that will make it a violation to park in bike lanes. If you live in Davidson County, please contact your council representitive and ask they support Metropolitan Ordinace BL2008-307. This bill will allow the metropolitan police to write citations for illegal parking in bike lanes in Davidson County. It is scheduled for final passing November 18th and is in committee right now.
If you do not live in Davidson county, please pass this on to whomever you know that does. This is a big step to moving Nashville, and the state of Tennessee toward a future more friendly to cyclists.
There is opposition to this bill and we need to make sure those who support it outweigh those who are opposed.
